Our Team

 ABOUT OUR ORGANIZER TEAM

Carl Christy began coaching with NBN in 2012, shortly after graduating from UNCC with his degree in Engineering. Falling in love with the league & athletes, Carl has not missed a season since, often coaching multiple teams when needed. His main goal is for the kids to have fun and enjoy basketball for the great game it is. Watching young athletes grow in their skills, abilities, and confidence while maturing in life lessons sports brings to youths is his one take away from the league.

Jim Crawford has been coaching basketball, running leagues and tournaments and has been   refereeing basketball for many years before moving to North Carolina in 2013.  Jim has enjoyed spending time in almost every role in basketball - from spectator and parent to score keeper and clock operator to league administrator and tournament scheduler to referee.  Jim loves the game and the environment and wants to make sure the kids have a positive experience every time they step into a gym.

Bobby Williams has been coaching youth basketball for the over 20 years at just about every level -- from 5-year-olds at the recreation level to high school seniors. He most recently completed his coaching career for the women’s basketball team at Lake Norman Charter High School. He has been a director/coordinator for AAU basketball, bringing in teams and players from all around the North and South Carolina areas. He coached one of his AAU girls’ teams to a third-place National finish in 2005. Bobby’s AAU players include a large number of local high school players as well as both boys and girls currently playing at the collegiate level.

 ABOUT OUR PLAYERS

NBN participants will include both boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 18 years old.

Our intent is to have both a boys and a girls league, however, if we don’t have enough signed up to do a separate girls league, the league will be co-ed. The age group that your child will be eligible to play in for the SPRING league is based on his or her age as of March 15th. The age group that your child will be eligible to play in for the FALL league is based on his or her age as of August 15th. If you as a parent would like to request that your child play up one level and as long as NBN feels that it’s in the best interest of that player, we will try our best to accommodate your request.

However, for obvious reasons we will NOT allow an older child to play down in age.

All kids that sign up will be required to participate in a pre-determined skills day, which will be held prior to the start of the season.

At skills day, the kids will be run through a variety of fundamental drills, which will allow each coach the opportunity to assess each kids skill level.

Once all players have been rated, the coach’s ratings will be combined to come up with an overall skills rating.

NBN teams will be formed by an official “draft” process which will allow the coaches to pick their teams in order by skill level which will in turn allow those teams to be split as even as possible. This process is done for each age group.

No group or coach may form his/her own team to compete in this league
